ATLAS Inner Detector: Commissioning with Cosmics Data
نویسنده
چکیده
The ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has started taking data in Autumn 2008 with the inauguration of the LHC. The determination of vertex position and charged particle tracks is performed in the Inner Detector which consists of pixel and microstrip silicon sensors and of straw drift tubes with transition radiation detector capability. All three subdetectors were run in standalone and also in a combined mode with other ATLAS subsystems. The current status of the three subsystems is reviewed, including results from recent data-taking periods, and from the detector alignment. Particular emphasis is given to the results obtained from cosmic muon runs in preparation for collision data.

Preparing for LHC data-taking with the ATLAS experiment
The status of the ATLAS experiment a few months before the start-up of LHC operation is described. Emphasis is given to the preparation for the imminent data-taking phase through commissioning studies with cosmics data. A few examples of the physics potential and goals with early LHC data are also presented.
متن کاملCommissioning and performance of the ATLAS Inner Detector with the first beam and cosmic data
The ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) started data-taking in Autumn 2008 with the inauguration of the LHC. The Inner Detector is a tracking system for charged particles based on three technologies: silicon pixels, silicon microstrips and drift tubes. The detector was commissioned and calibrated in the ATLAS cavern. Cosmic muons data are used for timing the different compo...
متن کاملReadiness of the Atlas Experiment for First Data
The ATLAS detector is one of the experiments at the LHC that will detect high-energy proton collisions at 14 TeV. The commissioning of the detector has started already in 2005 in parallel to the detector installation and is still in progress. The data taken so far corresponds to noise runs, cosmic muon events and beam background events from single beam in September 2008. We present the current ...
متن کاملCommissioning of the ATLAS Pixel Detector
The ATLAS Pixel Detector is the innermost detector of the ATLAS experiment at LHC. Approximately 80 million silicon sensors allow to detect particle tracks and secondary vertices with very high precision. The ATLAS Pixel Detector is now in its final commissioning phase. A full characterization and qualification of the detector is currently performed: calibration procedures, special DAQ runs for...
متن کاملCommissioning and Performance of the ATLAS Liquid Argon Calorimeters
The ATLAS liquid argon (LAr) calorimeter system consists of an electromagnetic barrel calorimeter and two end-caps with electromagnetic, hadronic and forward calorimeters. The construction of the full calorimeter system is completed since mid-2004. The detector has been operated with LAr at nominal high voltage and fully equipped with readout electronics. Online software, monitoring tools and o...
